Cyber Induction Course for Defence & Government
Sector: Defence & Federal Government | Capability: Training & Workforce Development | Timeframe: 2020–2023
Problem
Awareness of cyber security risks varied widely across Defence and government agencies. Many staff had limited understanding of core principles, while others held advanced qualifications but lacked a common language for communicating risk. This gap made it difficult to ensure consistent security culture and effective collaboration.
Solution
Calexi staff were engaged to design and deliver a tailored induction program that could scale across agencies. We:
- Reviewed and adapted existing materials to align with Defence requirements.
- Developed new course content specific to Australian legal, regulatory, and government environments.
- Designed practical, hands-on activities suitable for participants ranging from entry-level staff to senior technical experts.
- Delivered the training in an engaging, interactive format, ensuring that all participants left with measurable learning outcomes.
Results
Over a three-year period, more than 300 Defence, APS, and contractor staff were trained across five government departments. Participants gained a consistent baseline understanding of cyber security, reducing organisational risk and improving communication of threats across teams. Feedback indicated that staff left the course with increased confidence and practical skills they could apply immediately.
